Goodwill is a great place for general donations including clothing, books, and household items.
Ruth’s Refuge provides home furnishings and essentials to NYC-based refugees and asylum seekers.
St. Mary’s Clothing Drive offers free pick-up in most zip codes for clothing and housewares (no electronics, books, or furniture).
Big Reuse accepts a wide variety of materials from construction projects and estate clear-outs as well as smaller donations of hardware, housewares, clothing, electronics, and books.
Housing Works accepts clothing, accessories, housewares, furniture, and more at their thrift shop locations. They also partner with refashionNYC to provide drop boxes for apartment buildings, commerical businesses, schools, and other institutions.
Trashie recycles textiles and electronics with a purchase of a Take Back Bag or Box ($20-$25).
Soles for Souls accepts gently used shoes and clothing, and they provide a free shipping label for donations by mail.
Little Essentials and Room to Grow collect donations of baby and toddler items in new or excellent used condition.
LEGO Replay gives your LEGO bricks a second creative life (full sets not required). They provide a free shipping label for donations by mail.
GrowNYC hosts free community Stop ‘N’ Swaps for clean, portable items like clothing, housewares, electronics, and toys.
Wearable Collections collects clothing, shoes, and textiles for donation and recycling at greenmarkets throughout the city. They offer home pick-ups for a $20 fee and will provide donation drop boxes for apartment buildings upon request.
Dress for Success and Bottomless Closet collect new and gently worn women’s professional clothing.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts donations of new or gently used furniture, appliances, housewares, building materials, and more.
Brooklyn Book Bodega accepts new or gently used books for babies, kids, and teens.
The Lower East Side Ecology Center offers pop-up e-waste recycling events throughout the city.
Time Shred provides residential shredding services, and all of the paper they shred is recycled.
